Buon Ma Thuot (or Buon Me Thuot) is the capital of Dak Lak province and the largest city in Central Highlands Vietnam. It is known as the coffee mecca of Vietnam, and maybe the world too. The high profile Trung Nguyen Coffee brand's factory is based here.
Buon Ma Thuot deprives from Ede language, meaning "the village of Ama Thuot ", a very rich landlord in the region. Buon Ma Thuot is also the first place in Central Highland that experiences the immigration of the King ethnic people into the region originally populated by hill tribal people only.
The Central Highlands has an average altitude of 500-600m with rich basalt soil, suitable for planting coffee tree, cacao, pepper, and white mulberry. Coffee is the most important product of Tay Nguyen, with production centred in Dak Lak Province. Many coffee plantations can be found here. There is an airport in the city already.
